Perhaps it is not obvious to us consumers, but everything that we do in the Internet consume much more electricity than what we personally use at home. This is due to the fact that the date we acquire in the Internet is powered by data centers across the globe, which consume millions of kilowatt-hours. Ben Worthen's entry on "The Wall Street Journal" says that HP's Netbooks will end Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system upon the the popularity of these new and less powerful devices.
